I’ve been having a blast shooting engagement photos with many of my wedding clients. An engagement portrait session is a great opportunity to get to know each other, and produce some nice images without all the stress of the wedding day. A couple uses for these photos are invitations and coffee table albums, but I’m writing today to share images of a guest signature book.

This guest book was made from the portrait session for Katie and Will. Ironically, they weren’t actually engaged at the time, but are now engaged and set to marry later this summer.

A guest book is a wonderful way to display engagement photos, and it becomes an instant keepsake after the wedding. My guest books are printed on beautiful felt paper that holds ink really well. I make sure to lay out the book with plenty of room for signatures. The pages lay flat due to a special binding, and the image quality is very good.

What’s the difference between this an my wedding albums? Well, there’s a big difference! The guest books are digitally press printed which basically means ink-on-paper. This is great because it’s affordable, and we can use felt paper which is great for writing.
Albums are digitally photographically printed, which is not ink-on-paper but photographic paper exposed to light to produce an image. Photographic printing is very high quality and lasts much longer than press printed images. After my album prints are made, they are laminated to a stiff substrate, and coated for protection. This makes my albums a “legacy” type product which can easily last for generations without much image degradation.
